Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
